Code of Conduct

The Christian Dance Studio is committed to providing a friendly and supportive atmosphere.  In order to provide a safe and uplifting environment for all students, we ask that families follow our code of conduct to create a positive dance experience. We’re asking for the dancers to have a joyful heart; to listen carefully; and to encourage one another and build each other up.  As your teachers, we make the following commitment to our dancers:

  1. We will pray for you;
  2. We will ensure that each dancer meets the requirements for modest dress, in class and onstage;
  3. We will do everything to help your dance be excellent and help you understand the choreography and the reasons behind it;
  4. We will help each dancer meet his or her potential.

Parent & Dancer Conduct Guidelines

  1. It is important to arrive at class rested, well fed, and ready to work hard.  Emphasis is placed on working to full capacity for each class.  There is only one class a week and dancers need to consistently dance full out and try their best!
  2. Punctuality is very important. Students should arrive 10 minutes prior to class, ready to stretch to avoid injury.
  3. Please notify the Studio by e-mail if you cannot attend your class. Regular attendance is necessary for a dancer’s development and missing class puts not only your child but the entire class behind.  Continued absences may result in the student being excluded from parts of choreography.
  4. Hair and Dress code as per the website.  Dancers are expected to wear proper attire and have their hair done every week. We recommend getting a dance bag, keeping everything in one place, and labeling all of your belongings clearly.  It is a good idea to have everything ready the night before since school days are so hectic.
  5. No cell phones, gum chewing, candy, or eating in class.  Water bottles are recommended and should be labelled.
  6. Food shall only be eaten in the church kitchen.  Please clean all dishes and garbage and leave rooms in excellent condition.
  7. Observers, parents and friends shall remain outside the classroom during classes, except by invitation from the instructor.
  8. Dancers are expected to maintain a respectful attitude at all times. Disrespectful behaviour, including arguing with the teacher, excessive talking, or not following instructions, may result in the student being asked to observe or leave the class.
  9. It is important that parents are respectful of the Directors, teachers, and stage management personnel.
  10. Parents are asked to be supportive of The Christian Dance Studio with your prayers and your actions.  If you have a concern or a comment, please email us to express your concern.
  11. Please use e-mail during non-teaching times to communicate with us as the teachers cannot speak with you between classes on Monday nights.

Rehearsals & Performances

It is your responsibility as parents and students to be fully aware of all dates and times for rehearsals, all dress code requirements, and the shoes your dancer needs.  The information will be emailed to you and is also available on the website.  Missing the technical, blocking and dress rehearsals makes it impossible for that student to participate in the concert; therefore, attendance at these rehearsals is mandatory.   For dress rehearsals dancers will arrive on time, in full costume with hair and make-up.  Approved volunteers shall be signed in to all theatre areas which are otherwise designated off-limits to parents.

We suggest that you make careful note of rehearsal times and mark them on your calendar.  Print off emails and get your child to point out when and where they’re needed and mark it on the calendar together.  Many parents miss vital information because they never read the emails to the end:  do this together with your dancer and allow them to participate in the responsibility.

Photography and videotaping are not permitted during the Dance Concert due to union regulations.   Be blessed by the live theatre experience!

Photo/Video & Liability Waiver

As parent/guardian, I give my consent for my child(ren) to participate in the programs of The Christian Dance Studio. I recognize the risks of injury common to any dance program and hereby release The Christian Dance Studio, its employees and volunteers against all claims of liability, including accidents or injury while on or about their premises, or while participating in off-site performances or activities. This acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability has been read, understood completely and signed by the parent/legal guardian of the student.

I grant permission to The Christian Dance Studio to photograph and/or video the following student(s) and to use this material, in whole or in part, for promotion and/or fundraising purposes for The Christian Dance Studio on its website and/or Youtube, through photo-sharing sites such as (but not limited to) Picassa, and on Facebook.
